Back in 2015, my husband called me and said he was bringing home something that was going to make me very happy. He wasn't wrong! He agreed to help a friend clear out an old factory. His friend told him that if he found something he liked, that was being discarded, he could keep it. As they were cleaning things out, my husband saw two large wheels sticking out of a dumpster covered in trash. He asked if he could have those wheels and whatever was attached to them. That was where my beautiful television cart came from. This vintage factory cart cost us a total of One Dollar and 75 cents. The price of a bottle of extra strength degreaser. My husband did have to replace the top of the cabinet because of severe decay, but he used free reclaimed wood to do that. After he made the new top, he was able to salvage the original top divider in it's original green chippy paint!! The cart frame is all metal. The shelving and top is wood. All the paint is the original dreamy shade of green. Isn't it just splendid?! That's rhetorical, it definitely is!! After it was all cleaned up and repaired it looked like something you would find at Pottery Barn, and for a pretty penny I might add. An awesome industrial vibe that is totally our style. The casters alone were fantastic! They were antique Colson Corp. I love how they say "quiet wheels" on them. In the era of modern farmhouse living where all the things have words on them explaining their purpose (Shout out to Rae Dunn) these babies fit in nicely! I'm not sure if they actually are quiet. For the past 5 years, this cart hasn't moved so much as an inch. Greg secured it to the wall so it wouldn't shift annoyingly and have to be constantly readjusted. Eventually, I'd like to get more, better fitting baskets to fill the shelves. Or maybe create some kind of faux apothecary drawers fronts on it. Something to hide whatever we chose to put inside. Both for aesthetics and to keep sweet toddler hands off of all the things. For now though, I'm perfectly content with my incredible free factory cart with all it's character and original details. And I'm so thankful for my Greg. The same man who used to be so embarrassed by me picking up free things up off the side of the road. Just look at the dumpster diver I've turned him into! He's the total package now, amiright ladies?!! Again, no need to answer. 😉 Just check out this beaut . . . Leave a comment below telling me the best thing you ever picked up for free!
